The Cake Divider
Name of the mystery tool
A cake divider.
What does a cake divider do?
It is used as a marking guide to place decorations evenly or away from cutting lines, also used for even pieces guide. This tool is lightly pressed on top of the cake and leaves a slightly indented line on top of the cake/cream to guide cutting or placing decorations on top.
For example: have you gone into a café and noticed cakes? The cakes’ decorations are spaced out evenly on top, so when cut, every slice is the same in size and what decoration is on top.
The cake divider comes with a few options: 10 section, 8/12, 12/16, 12/18, 14/16, 14/18.
In the description, you see in-store to purchase, for example, 8/12. This means there are eight guidelines on the top side and twelve guidelines on the bottom. You can mark a cake into 8 or 12 even slices. Just make sure you flip it onto the right side for the number of line marks you want on top of the cake.
Have I used the cake divider? Do I need it?
I have used this when decorating torte and gateau as it provides a guide to the café owner or customer on how big the slice should be and makes it easier for them.
Do I use it every day?
No, I don’t. It isn’t such an extensive product line in our bakery anymore. If you were selling cakes to cakes as a wholesale business, this tool would make it make easier and consistent when decorating.
