Sausage Roll Maker Ideas
Sausage roll maker ideas
Ideas what you can use the sausage roll maker for besides sausage rolls!
Have you heard that Kmart (in Australia) has released an electric sausage roll maker? They have a pie maker as well which there are Facebook groups that show what creations they have made with the pie marker and this isn’t including pies. If you want to read more about what creation they have come up with have a look at this post “Check out the creative products made with a Pie Marker“
So I brought the sausage roll maker (well, to be honest. A friend of mine got it for me because they were so popular. Every time I went, the shelves were empty! She saw a load just arrived and grabbed one for me). I wanted to know if I could try something different and make Honey logs and because my daughter loves choc donuts, I was going to try to attempt a chocolate donut log.
I had brought a packet of white wings donut bites and had been sitting in the pantry for a little while, so I thought I would try this in the sausage roll maker.
Making the donuts
The recipe is pretty simple and quick to make. It smelt like the donut mix I used to make up at woollies that went through the donut hopper, which the same thing at Donut King or food trucks at shows/event.
I deposited the batter into the sausage roll maker that had been warmed up for about 2mins. I filled it up just level with the edge of the rim of the bottom sausage roll insert (which was about two spoons full). It took almost 6-8minutes until they were ready.
I did try to roll them in the sugar that was provided, but it didn’t stick, so do you actually have to coat with melted butter and then roll the “Donut Sausage”
There was still a little batter left for the second round but only got two more out of the batter. I didn’t coat them in sugar, because I was going to icing it with chocolate fondant to make a “chocolate donut log”.
The logs were taking a while to cool down so I cut the sugar ones in half as they were going to have honey and cream inside them and I put them into the fridge.

The two plain ones I put into the freezer for almost 10 minutes.
Decorating the donuts logs
I have honey in a squeeze bottle as it is so much easier to just warm up in the microwave for about 30secs just to squeeze it quickly onto porridge, into teas, or onto the donut logs!
Next, I piped fresh cream, using my daughter’s baking kit cream syringe, which is very different than what I had used before; I usually use a piping bag. The cream didn’t look too bad, and they weren’t going to be on display for very long! I was lucky enough to grab a photo of it!
Next were the chocolate donut logs. I grabbed them out of the freezer. They were just less body temperature now. I heated up so chocolate fondant in the microwave to about 37c (body temp) and then dipped the donuts in, and then they were ready for my daughter.
The packet of the white wings donut bites gave us 6 logs and they disappeared in no time!
