Icing Flower Nail – cake decorating

Name of the mystery tool

Icing Flower Nail – (can be called a few names piping nail, flower nail, icing nail, decorating flower nail)

What does an Icing Flower Nail do?

The Icing Flower Nail is Used for piping flowers out of buttercream or royal icing or for spreading the heat when large cake making.

Have I used the Icing Flower Nail? Do I need it?

I do have a few but can only use one at a time though. I have a few different size tops and the stick that you hold can be smooth or with a thread.

Yes, I do use it when making buttercream flowers or royal icing flowers. You can stick templates on the head of the nail to help guide you when piping out different icing flowers.

However, I have not used it to help bake a large cake. I have seen it used though, essentially you stick the nail in the centre of the cake and usually when baking a cake the heat will slowly heat the cake from the outside towards the centre but the heat from the nail will radiate outwards from the centre to bake the cake faster and potentially more even too.

Do I use it every day?

I don’t use it every day but when I make icing flowers I get my range of piping nails out ready.
