What is the Australian Baking Industry National Scholarship Awards?
In Australia, there is an Australian Baking Industry National Scholarship Awardscompetition. It is a theory type competition for people in the baking industry. What is involved in the Australian Baking Industry National Scholarship Awards?
OAM Sydney Packham Medal
The 18 to 24, then the Sydney J Packham Baking Industry Medal. The OAM Sydney Packham medal is about 18 questionnaire which tends to be on average about 40 pages long. This requires the entrant to do some research. There is a mystery box of a list of ingredients., where you have to design a 4 plated dessert. I was told there is a bonus point if you actually made the desserts and send in photos too.
To find out the winner would be the highest number of correctly answered questions. The highest point scoring entry would be the winner for the regional and for the National winner
The Arthur Dension Trophy
The over 25-year entrants enter The Arthur Denison Trophy. In the entry pack that is sent out, there are 4 topics about various subjects around the baking industry. Choose one topic to write a paper on that is no longer than 10 pages long.
After the paper is completed and sent in. All the papers go through one set of judges. The judges do not know who the paper is written by, and they follow a set criteria to mark. This produces the final regional winners.
The next step the regional winner papers to go off to another set of judges. Where the judges will mark the papers against the criteria, to produce the national winner. The winner is announced at the awards night.
What is a regional winner?
Australia is divided into 4 regions North, East, West and South.
- Northern Region – representing Queensland and Northern Territory
- Eastern Region – representing New South Wales and the ACT
- Western Region – representing South Australia and Western Australia
